A spunky spitfire with a temper courtesy of her Irish heritage so vicious it's a wonder her hair isn't red, Evelyn is hardheaded and refuses to believe anything that can't be proven to her satisfaction. A skeptic from her youngest years, Ev always felt like there was something strange about her father, how he would come and go without mentioning his destination and always acted like he was hiding something. Even his death when she was six struck her as suspicious, although she left it alone until her mother fell to an eerily similar demon attack this past winter. Now, left behind as the head of the family and the sole caretaker of her younger sister, Blair, Evelyn is determined to find out the truth. A paper trail that started in their father's study is about to lead the sisters thousands of miles away from the rolling hills of Ireland to the concrete jungle of Chicago - and to family they didn't know they had.

Witty, quick on the draw and wickedly smart, Blair is the brains behind the Dempsey sisters' quest for truth. Although she was originally hesitant to leave Ireland and the Dempsey estate, the only home she'd ever known, it was her who dug through their father's old, seemingly useless papers and was able to piece together that the secrets they were looking for lay in Chicago. It is also her who has the quiet assumption that the sisters (and now a brother) might be dealing with something bigger than all of them. Unwilling to worry her siblings with the information she feels she might have, Blair does some sleuthing of her own - a daredevil even when it might not be a wise choice to be one. Blair's never been one to go on hunches, but there's an instinct in her she can no longer ignore: an instinct that says whatever killed their parents might be coming for them next.

ASMODEUS - "THOMAS HANLON"

There are quite a few myths, legends, and certifiable facts out there about Asmodeus (which you can read here), but for all intents and purposes let's just say the guy's one bad son of a bitch. One of the Princes of Hell, he has an insatiable appetite for trouble and enjoys causing it in any way possible. For the last few millenia, though, there's been a plan itching at his mind. Why be content with causing trouble in the world when he could own it? The only thing he'd need for a takeover was a weapon, a proverbial leader for the troops. Unfortunately, his warlock son, Colt, didn't really turn out as the paranormal A-Bomb he had planned, so Asmodeus picked up a human vessel in the form of Thomas Hanlon, a used car salesman in the Chicago area, and has been keeping a sharp eye out for someone who fits the bill for the weapon he has in mind.

AILIS MONROE COPPER

While she takes a lot of good-natured ribbing for being the "new kid" in the pack, Ailis is full of spunk and has a smile and a song to cover up the horror of a past she refuses to talk about. After growing up as a poor miner's daughter in the coal fields of West Virginia, Ailis moved to Chicago to stay with her cousin after her father died of mesothelioma last fall. To put it lightly she was a country mouse in the big city, didn't know any better than to walk around the seedier parts of town after dark. She still won't talk about what happened to her that night, only that the result was her transformation into a lycanthrope. Still, the others can piece together the story from her mannerisms - twitching away when someone tries to touch her, startling easy at fast movement or loud noise, waking up screaming - but they're not going to try to force her to talk about it. Wolves don't do that feelings junk anyways. Even though she's the hick hayseed of a pup, the new kid on the block, Ailis has caught Breyer's attention and has been taken under his wing; he's really the only one of the pack that she'd even come close to honestly sharing something with.
